Provincially significant wetlands (psws) are those areas identified by the province as being the most valuable. Wetland by trained biologists are required to accurately define the wetland boundary for “constraint mapping” and development purposes. ( wetlands that obtain a total score of 600 points or more, or score 200 points in either the biological component or special features component, are designated as psw's.)

Species at risk, coastal wetlands, unique forested wetlands, some floodplain wetlands).

This map includes provincially significant wetlands and other areas that are likely to be wetlands due to the water table being close to the surface. Psws are wetlands that have been evaluated and designated based on diverse criteria, including wildlife habitat, species at risk, flood and groundwater control, water quality and recreational opportunities. This story map is a collective effort of local community groups and environmental organizations. All wetlands are now regulated based on their presence on the ground, regardless of if they are identified on the wawa reference map or not.
